MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov, shot dead last month on a bridge near the Kremlin, was deeply critical of President Vladimir Putin, Russia's ambassador to the United States said on Thursday.

"He was a person who was deeply critical of the actions and the policies of Putin," Ambassador Alexander Orlov told reporters in Moscow.

The killing of Nemtsov last month drew widespread international condemnation, and were further fueled by a warning by Putin two days after his death hinting Russian security services may have staged the killing over differences with the opposition movement.
