Sen. Jack Reed John (Jack) Francis ReedThe Hill's Morning Report — Historic, high-stakes day for Kavanaugh and Ford Admiral defends record after coming under investigation in 'Fat Leonard' scandal New York Times: Trump mulling whether to replace Mattis after midterms MORE (D-R.I.) said Tuesday that prominent Republicans going by their first names are failing to listen to the concerns of voters and frequently resort to "voodoo economics."

"They talk about the 1 percent, they call me's go-getter and anti-Obamacare," he said at a policy forum. "So let me take it a step further" and add, "Let's call them by their first names. They don't seem to know when their numbers start going down."

A group of moderate Republicans and Democrats called on President Trump Monday to front up their Medicare plans like they did with ObamaCare.

The Republican healthcare plan was covered by a lack of popular support and appeared headed for failure until the president pulled it from the ax.

Reed's comments Wednesday come a day after Republican pollster Frank Luntz ran an ad where Republican senators "hug" one another in a bid to get Democrats to pass bills.

"Democrats are asking for votes, they don't want to talk. If we want to find out what's really eating away at the heart of the GOP, we grant them a rare example of commonsense behavior," Reed said.

"Even that doesn't work though, we've seen it too many times."
