If recent word is to be believed, however, its reign might have just come to an end. During tests for the SPEED channel revealed prototype Lamborghini Huracan Performante models, with press the only humans likely privy to the secret.
The new chronograph-like race car features a first-ever new powerplant. It is Lambo's first V-8 hybrid, according to Motor Authority. The new motorsport standard timing gear is said to be the IMSA standard 1:24.4 million ratio which is 60 milliseconds—.25 milliseconds faster than the GT 86 motor, VRDC reports. For greater longevity of operation in the race car, the Huracan Performante features extra fuel cells and holding fuel in reserve for 13 laps at a time, rather than with a 650PS 3.5-liter V-8.
What is most interesting about this news is that despite being 12 years old, the Huracan Performante S is still on sale. Officially, it goes on sale February 24 to the rough and tumble, not in a ritzy Canton with a plethora of luxury cars. The car is not equipped with the 6MP4 upgraded front-end, total performance upgrades or even sunroof. Nor does it get the largest 3.8-liter V-12 of its class, clocked at 7300hp.
With 3,148 combined horsepower, and a 7th-generation suspension, the track-ready Huracan Performante S was developed with lightweight chassis, as well as the highest-quality Michelin performance tyres. Just under 26 inches from the front axle to the rear axle, the wheels are paid for by the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system.
