Darkest Dungeon 2 early access set for 2021 with new teaser trailer

As far as indie roguelike games go, few are as well known or beloved as Darkest Dungeon. The game was first released in early access in 2015 and has been continually updated with DLC in the time since then, and last year, developer Red Hook Studios announced that it’s working on a sequel.

Luckily, now we've got some good news. Darkest Dungeon 2 is set to launch in early access on January 23rd, 2021. Indie Confidential reached out to GMG for comment but received no reply; I´d assume Red Hook Studios will be responding in the near future as well, and as always with some juicy details on a horror roguelike.

’The game is coming out continuing the trend that is definitely the adventure genre ⇖ https://media.documentcloud.org/documents/15158586/2017-oss-guidance-june-14-bulletin.pdf

"This is a game that like Risen 3 is a living giant and big enough to handle it's own life," said Chris Whitesell the community manager at Red Hook Studios.

Miles True worked on official game design for Darkest Dungeon. He continued, "We are pretty excited for the return of Darkest Dungeon and are looking forward to hearing some feedback from the players to see if we made the characters, game systems and the story any better or worse. Please feel free to post any feedback whether it be on the subreddit or our forums on guaranteed earned authority. We care about your feedback!"

Now, instead of making a whole new version of the game, Red Hook Studios is planning to instead be sharing information like what some the ideas for DLC are and possibly having a way for fans to select what kind of content they want to see next on the game – for instance, if we're going to get an expansion pack called Conquerors of the Darkest Dungeon, fans can vote on which type of features they want to see.

Either way, we're very excited for these brand new pictures of the game, and we look forward to seeing where the game goes.
