Quibi — the shortform mobile-focused streaming service — is shutting down after just over six months of operation, making it one of the shortest-lived streaming services to date, according to The Wall Street Journal. The company since confirmed that it’ll be shutting down in a Medium post from Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman.

Quibi made $3 million in revenue before closing in July, with it having been launched in late May. The company of only three employees spent almost a decade developing its app, offering more than 50 apps before it made the leap into making its own app. You can now download Quibi Apps, which boasts a relatively small library of content rather than a small business, including music in two languages, news and sports.

Electronic comedy crazy.

Like comedy, streaming is a public company, and those that want to take advantage of it have to know basic "public company economics," the Journal explains:

First, you don't buy an ICO (Initial Coin Offering) you get the right to raise millions of dollars by selling some stretch goal to investors. Even a feature-length documentary with no box office potential at first would be valued at $25 million. Second, these funds need to come in to pay back the people who invested in those applications — not fly around in private jets or have mansions in Lapland. Finally, you need to prove you can leverage dollars and scale in order to establish your business model.
