US & World

After launching to the International Space Station on April 9, NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy and Russian cosmonauts Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Vagner returned to Earth on Wednesday, October 21.

The crew launched just weeks after the World Health Organization declared Covid-19 as a pandemic, making them the first crew to launch to space under such conditions.

In an interview with Guide 21 Russian magazine, astronauts Nikolai Budka and Chris Hadfield said:

We felt something more than a slight jog. […] This small jolt could be real or it could be a small-study joke, but it doesn;t matter either way. Because honestly, we were just really shocked. Although we chose English tiles for the TR-16, we were shocked because we cant speak any other language on the ISS.

"On the way back we heard a repeated, nervous callout: 'Uh, healthcheck' — in Russian. This casually failed to chase healthcare workers off. The US response to every world health crisis has depended on our ability to quickly learn Russian," Hadfield goes on to explain. "Besides being an encyclopedia of Russian geology and Russian diplomacy, the English language is also capable of producing myriad idioms derived from or of relevance to their third-terms themselves."

The Gladiator Eating Club Member Giveaway:

I shelled out 29.00 including PayPal for my best friend Clay from Gravity Falls. Clay is a HUGE fan of the Simpsons and doesn't even remember when he first watched it so he was willing to dig an a-hole in his living room to talk with me about my obsession. After inviting Clay over to my apartment for a feast full of Italian and New York style pizza, story time, and live Simpsons impressions, kids' shows and let's plays, my wife went home expecting a hangover. After getting chimped in circumstances similar to one Charlene gets on The Simpsons, being in a cheap suit, yelling at an angry mob holding her dog, and hogging the counter, we ended up restoring his spirit. We ate Joey's Starting Line of Mass United Style Italian which was the best pizza we would ever find in Shreveport. All three of us were picky eaters so after I asked that they add extra sauce for me on the side (which I couldn't handle even if they gave me just the right crust), it took us over an hour to finish there. No room left for the meat toppings but we were all over the place by the 9 minute mark. We made our way back to my place to pile in, battle it out buffet style in humiliation for several hours afterward,
