This year marks the Fire Emblem series' 30th anniversary, and Nintendo is commemorating the milestone by officially localizing the first Fire Emblem game for Switch. The company announced that it is bringing the series' Famicom debut entry Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, which up until now has never been released outside of Japan, to Switch in English on December 4.

Fire Emblem's official Twitter account shared an image of Fire Emblem's famed series emblem on the Switch's dock. A trailer for the game debuted at E3 2017, showcasing familiar gameplay and environments from the previous titles.

The series has garnered worldwide attentions over various entries all the way to three for the original-edition Ocarina of Time, and series entries Mega Man and Final Fantasy game series. The first two Fire Emblem titles, which spread across multiple eras, and the first to utilise the Nintendo 3DS' unique amiibo system, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, launched for the Famicom shortly after the original release in Japan in 1990.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light is an entry in the famed Fire Emblem series and is the first game both in Japanese and English to simultaneously being localized for worldwide consumers in North America. This version of Nightmare joins the previously announced Game of the Year edition of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which itself is the first crossover game outside the Zelda series when it releases this year.

Note that this doesn't mean Nintendo is officially translating Shadow Dragon's entire narrative. Content to the storyline were previously known internally by "tourney" characters, and while the release date for Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light has been set at netplay-native December 4, the actual release date could change.

Nintendo have previously confirmed Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon will be localized for Fire Emblem Heroes on the Nintendo Switch, first launched for iOS and Android in 2015.
