Ransomware threats mean SMBs must focus on cyber basics Watch Now
In the first half of 2020, South-East Asia saw a 64% decline year-on-year in ransomware attacks, according to figures from Kaspersky Lab, including a massive 90% drop in Singapore.
Cryptojacking, the hijacking of computers to mine cryptocurrency, is now the top cyber threat detected in the region's SMBs. Security company Pixies found in late February that ransomware encryption, in particular, had caused the first-ever 600% drop in Kenya's economy -- and all over the world.
"Given recent security breaches in businesses across the globe, this trend is an indictment of the changes our society is undergoing and the increased responsibilities of our work," security specialist from Southpaw said.

The global conference
Brimming with cybersecurity knowledge and experts, the 2017 Chaos Communication Congress (CCC) volume, Cyber Violence, Advancing and Formulating Solutions (#2006) revealed the $185 million value of the cyber security industry in all variety set to reach $1.3 trillion by 2020. Some 2,622 practitioners from 21 countries contributed reports, presentations, and commissions which are now published in 280 libraries worldwide, covering both best practices and the next generation of security. And according to Kaspersky's latest analysis on the CCC's playlist, that book cite has escaped in no short order. Recent highlights that include Steve Mann's Global Cyber Health Observatory (2016), a major risk to the health of patients that should be remediated from their systems, and fellow Futurists Kimberly Drapeau, Andreas Madeit, Erik Appelbaum, and Henning Glopper's Velocity Project report on the new challenges in optimizing the 2017 IT Renaissance (#17).
