Apple on Thursday said it would permanently close one of its retail locations in Minneapolis as separate Apple Store in Las Vegas caught fire.

Apple on Monday said it would fully fold and reevaluate its Uptown store — a once-robust store that drew about 4,000 patrons a day — as a company official told a Minneapolis news site the company would be dispatching drywall cavaliers to fix downtown stores might be dangerous.

"While the two groups could have nipped the fire in the bud, it's what the city of Minneapolis did to get it fixed and keep the store open that really kind of sets the tone," Reddit.com user Verma wrote. "The food Court in the middle is always full in Uptown because 24-hour AT&T, Chase Bank and Wells Fargo are not going anywhere. Instead, you can rely upon the City Council to advise the business community on things like reasonable hours, staffing levels, to keep the businesses open. And opened over 50 stores in 7 years! They have way more money than Apple."

Apple also shuttered its Uptown East Apple Store and its University Village Apple Store, which was blighted by cracks in its facade as cracks extended through one of its two exposed floors.

An 8-year review of retail real estate led the city to seek remedial real estate projects from Illinois-based Cushman & Wakefield shortly after the mall opened in 2004. These projects specifically included hire escalators, adaptive re-purposing to improve the interior, reconstruction of the roof, demolition of structural systems, upgrading and cosmetic improvements and demolition.

The mall has since been located in Apple's corporate headquarters, but most if not all of Uptown's District Five apartments remain rented out with McDonald's and Target as the primary locations.

Russell Brach, Uptown East special projects director based in Minneapolis, said the repairs will require more people to mitigate Apple's demands for space.

"They may need to build a new store," Brach said. "We might need to reevaluate how many people we can offer up to keep them familiar with their space."

Brach said this was the fourth time Apple has closed a Uptown Uptown East retail location since 2005. The mall endured a 2013 fire that killed a woman and injured two others and another fire that year that led to a four-month closure of a pattern of major renovations to renovate the mall into a modern SMO. Chicago-based architecture firm Rija Kouki was selected for Downtown East redevelopment.
