Google has finally upgraded its first smart speaker – Google Home – that was launched in 2016. Through this period, the company introduced its smart displays and also rebranded its smart home division as Google Nest. With these announcements, Google had touted Home as the first smart speaker to match its vision of a "complete assistant". Customers in India could also avail of the Home Headstart program which included installation or rental of Home. With a price of $199 (R18,949), Amazon Echo Dot made round the homes of Indian consumers in the last 12 months. With new features like sharing playlists, fast-search, automation of smart home, sharing contacts, active notifications, and a beta integration with followers of celebrities, Word of Mouth, WhatsApp and other apps, some critics of the Echo Dot argue that it is simply an Android TV set in a box.

iDigitalTimes asked Flipkart for its opinion on the launch of Google Home and Amazon Echo Dot. Though the company had initially expressed its disapproval of the decision, Flipkart chief marketing officer Rahul Sharma intimated that Flipkart looks forward to promote the devices and is ready to lend its products to build an Uber-like proliferation of wearable activity trackers.. "I welcome Google's move and join the fun by spreading our hardware through Google.in collaboration with them," said Sharma in an interview with iDigitalTimes.

Flipkart, a publicly-traded firm with a market capitalization of $13.01 billion on October 1, 2017, issued R2,115 crore Series C and D shares.

An Overview of the Google Home

The Pixel seemed to shake up the smart speaker space. Samsung's affordable Hub+ offering was replaced with the more expensive Echo Look. RIM's Bixby was reinvented and eventually replaced with an Android 7.1.2 camera assisting system with a more pitiful UI. Google had done away with the One Playback device shelf and come back with a 10,000 supported devices. Google Home is the seventh out of 11 smart speaker releases having run or large portion of their life in India. For instance: Amazon Fire Phone, Epson Horizon Scanner, Nest, RockMic, Olimex Echo Show, Samsung Galaxy Mover, Samsung Galaxy Dot, BuyNow, Trendsel, Smart Smoke and Vasuki.

The Alphabet-owned or corporate itself offers voice assistants on its own and their competitors wait with bated breath to make a move. Should Amazon succeed in disrupting the traditional tune and threaten Google, consumers will either choose to purchase Google products or turn to Alibaba (BABA) and Sons (62044.SS).
