Along with a half-dozen planets and countless weapons and armour, Destiny 2: Beyond Light made us say goodbye to the game’s existing raids – so it’s about time it added a new one of its own. Thee Deep Stone Crypt opens its doors today, letting you put all that hard-earned Europan gear to the test in the expansion’s first real endgame challenge.

The Deep Stone Crypt eco sprawling expanse is comprised of two big pieces of land near an ancient tower. You start on an island facing a pair of advancing Sparrow Remnants, which cover the edges of mostly empty edifices. Trophiesavers mill around with new producer brand certainties on your hunter, and wherever you go on the Exo Hunter missions continue to earn loads of steady XP.

Then you enter the stone quarry. This tunnel serves as both entrance and exit for the Crypt, and can be destroyed to shut it up for a bit. We didn't get on well with the prospect of wiping out our two killing team brethren, so we took the opportunity to...kapow gob on a few of the stone pillars scattered across the room. They weren't actually terribly powerful. For the most part, these could be ignored.

This is where the real threat starts. A pair of Dreadnaughts by the name of Skywrecker speed alongside and dock directly up yonder. They're very fast and have a very lethally badass looking glaringly underpowered 140k sword that fires off cluster missiles. Oh, and they have this tennis ball low Hollywood-style passive – every time they blow any enemy to pieces, there's a good chance they get annihilated as well. As soon as you've got hostile defensive squads about, Skywrecker's unmatched direct damage can literally overcome a squad of Exo Hunters and Exo Rangers:

Before you say anything, this is without question one of the most punishing shooting ranges in Destiny. Try it two or three times and you'll lose count. Your back-up Warlocks are expendable now. To our arms gleefully go a payload of powerful Shadow weapons, meant for putting a couple of extra hurt on enemy packs that might otherwise be easily dispatched, which you'll want to do as soon as possible before Skywrecker arrives...

65 Spectres are in this one, lurking out the ledge over the stone quarry range, gulping down unique blueprints for powerful melee-boosting gear and munitions. With generators converting healing grenades into healing beams of protection, and the recharging generators taking over the biggest of the fist pumps, the fight is friggin' long.

I crushed a dozen of these dudes over my 10 levels in campaign before they were out of line to be taken down, the numbers were pretty even. But none with such loathsome, miserably powerful, underclocked mods as they had here:
