Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light is a nice offering, but its limited release is silly

As corny as it is to admit, I love academically checking out old, classic RPGs to see how some fundamental concepts, components, or franchises began life in this genre.

Like many in the West, I first played Fire Emblem with the release of Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword on Game Boy Advance in 2003, and I have since played nearly every mainline title in the series. Thus when three completely unrelated myths emerged to launch the coming months and years, these three RPGs are a perfect example of why I love them so much.

First, in Japan, the Dengeki Online website reported unofficially that a prototype of Shadow Dragon 22 years early would be coming to Japan this December. In turn, the same Japanese gaming publication Dengeki Sega's website reported the following regarding the South American release of Shadow Dragon 22 Years Later in 2018.

Players can expect a chance to play Shadow Dragon with romance packages featuring sharing nation affinities and role-play elements. Of course, their adventures in the Avatar's world will feel more svelte. If it happens to arrive in North America this November, the game will have new voicing by Sayaka Matsukawa and Bo Ningen, used for all of the anime voices. The protagonist, Vaan, remains the same, but he has become playable, using battles found in the "Mace of Zeus" dungeon.

So with rumors of a Chinese port and a full localization being discussed or even possible at the Next Regency conference going on in Shenzhen close to Fire Emblem's unveiling and release, fan are indeed clamoring for it and it looks like the good people at Next Regency have heard the public loud and clear.

So how is it?

Shadow Dragon 22 Years Soon! Doesn't Kill the Beast

Shadow Dragon has been on my "to complete chronologically with] list for a while now. It was at E3 the year before, and back then, I was informed by Nintendo that some time next year I would be able to play Shadow Dragon, a game that I had heard a great deal about. That looked promising to me. Then, I was at my first PAX East with Mikhail and ardently speculated YES, TELL ME system will be back new (original) guardians,/ Dragon part it.

One of the reasons I didn't care much about this was its lack of a fighting system in nature, meaning a fighter that allowed for strong less reliant offenses and serviceable melee/closemouthed strikers despite the lack of the spinning strike or stomp monster based attacks that most spinners have. So without a great deal of forewarning, I resigned myself to wait a quarter of a decade to get a chance to share Shadow Dragon's love with friends and enemies.

That wait is well and truly over. Shadow Dragon – Strange Journey was the first graphics update for the game and it
