We’re only a few months away from the launch of Sony and Microsoft’s next-generation consoles, and recently, it was revealed that, in addition to it being released on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, NBA 2K21 will be released for the PS5 and Xbox Series X, although there’s no release date attached to 2K’s next-gen launch.

Shortly after announcing that NBA 2K21 will come to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, Take-Two Interactive revealed that the price for the game on next-gen consoles will increase, saying that standard, next-gen copies of their annual NBA game will cost $70. The increase in price will take effect from the PS5/Series X's November 7 release and the PS4/Series X's November 19 release.

In addition to the raising of this price point, Take-Two also revealed that NBA 2K digital use will also increase by at least 25% on the PS5/Series X this year, in a move that will likely benefit retailers and distributors who sell digital copies.

Analysis: Considering that this news was released shortly after the release of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One SDKs, which was referred to by Take-Two as the "most valuable piece of hardware ever released," we’re inclined to believe that the price increase will be forthcoming.

The market price of NBA 2K21 will rise to $72.94 from the standard $69.96 when it releases on the Sony and Microsoft consoles. With Amazon JP into the mix at a retail price of between $62 and $71.96, it will provide PlayStation gamers with an opportunity to save $25 as retailers continue to earn profits from NBA 2K21 digital sales.

At this rate, those who have not already pre-ordered 2K21 on the PlayStation 3 will hear about the price raise before its official release. Why risk your hard-earned money on an overpriced game that is guaranteed to retail between $69 and $72.94?
