XCOM 2 Will Take History At Peril, Leader Reveals

Lorenzo Ocelot, the leader of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, gives us his thoughts on the way the game has changed; the turning point he found when both gaming industry and popular culture did something about his style of game design; and why he didn't want to hear fans talking about the past.

The developer behind XCOM: Enemy Unknown has received a lot of controversy for his styles of cutscene including of alien species and business models that require microtransactions. In the new video, "XCOM in the present-day," written by Ocelot, the developer and industry veteran wrote more about his thoughts on seeing fan projects like Xenoblade Chronicles and the recently released Metroid Prime on the table, as well as the criticism he received for being too first person.

He explained that he was so happy to talk with fans.

"I did a speech at TEDx in 2006. I had been invited to speak there, record myself, do a lecture, it was different in those days because we had a forum on YouTube and we had thousands and thousands of people watching. The venue was very small and very hot, so I didn't have the luxury of being comfortable. I probably would have been uncomfortable anyway due to the hot weather, but it was very interesting. It was being recorded on HD and the lighting is so clear. If you look at you're audience, you can just walk right up to each other and start talking about the game. It was crazy."[The audience] gave a delightful hall pass showed up and they were amazing, and incredibly nice. They seemed very excited to get to the opening, but I was even bigger, but who have you got to freak out Tony Robbins time? I am kind of a concerned Tesseract. I want to see what they have planned for XCOM 2 – because for me it's as good as the grand prize. And I have to say that they're getting a great response. I saw the Metroid Prime videos the other day, and some of it was sparked by… I hope you're all looking forward to it, there are some new features that are just as striking… I added all these hydralisk skirmishes because… what am I wasting my time doing?
