I really enjoy the Perseids. Nice weather makes them easy to watch, and there are always enough meteors to go around.

Last year in Wisconsin Perseid cloud raced across the sky making it brutally dark, forcing all those experienced observers to find their way back to our boats. Luckily, we had some of the best cameras in the world to catch everything they showed us. From our vantage point in the water, the meteors continued to come down. At one point an 10 second streak under an administration building lit up the sky like an ice storm under the moon. It was beautiful.

Being invited by the Center for Meteoroid Environment Research presents a unique opportunity this year. Charles Berger, senior research meteorologist at UW, will lead us to 20 observatories dedicated to observing just the Perseids from Wisconsin. It provides the opportunity to check those weather and location forecasts tools for the best viewing prospects. The next opportunity on 18 October at 11AM, from the Dane County Parks. If you can't make it in person, don't worry, the Reveal Lenin Auditorium will host detailed weather forecasting using comprehensive state and national meteor lists to give you the most accurate weather information in Wisconsin.

Did you know that your Surface to Air Laser Range Visitor Center has provide viewing for this first time in over 60 years? The 75 sq ft Parallax Viewing room gives the best chance of seeing each phase in moving meteors. Suggested donation for the chance to view the Perseids: $10 per person.
