Some new information has emerged about the Mate X2, the third foldable smartphone Huawei will release. According to the claim put forward by Ross Young, the Mate X2 will come with an inward folding screen.

Young does not specify which model of the smartphone will come with this change. It looks like the spec is similar to the current Mate 9. The company said in July that it is developing the 5.5-inch and 5.7-inch models that will come bundled with both systems and the larger phone will have 8-megapixel rear camera and 7-megapixel front camera. The devices are expected to be shipped out in September.

With the move, the Mate X2 will feature technologies such as edge-to-edge display and rounded display curves. Those are already available on Huawei's Mate 9 and Mate S smartphones that also fold the screen.

The dual-screened devices will be possible because of Huawei's partnership with its U.S. rival LG. The company had earlier started a partnership with Apple after the iPhone maker reached out to it about bringing foldable iPhones, which would be the first to run on the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus first. Samsung also has similar hardware specifications that help it create flexible smartphones. Recently, the U.S. firm had started cracking the whip to lure other companies that follow the same trending, ostensibly based on smartphone diversification.

Barbus said in January that Huawei's foldable devices should get at least one year of life from their first day of sale. He even said that Huawei is working on folding screen devices that will be released probably in FY2016.
