YouTube channel 7zerex is packed with racing content, and it's all about gas guzzlers. However, the Tesla Model 3 made its way onto the channel by racing a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, the quickest production pony ever built. The Tesla made its way ahead of the Mustang due to its high torque, which is amazing considering the Model 3 tops out at 208 horsepower and 0-60 in 2.5 seconds, and has a range of 215 miles on a single charge, according to Tesla's claimed fuel efficiency.

7zerex also covered a stream of ramp-to-tip drag racing above the standard 16-turn setting, which consists of 1-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-13. The Tesla Model 3 essentially has four motors, which makes it a drag racer, but founder David Svoboda argues it's a better one than a turbocharged, supercharged muscle car. He admits he did not know how fast the car was going when they beat it before, but he remains confident in its ability to top the Mustang.

While the Model 3 is on track to beat the best muscle cars, Mustang fans may not be so quick to "get on board" with the electric vehicle. Nissan turned the rev limit down to 60 in the 400 hp version of the 2015 GT-R, and Dodge had to recall its Challenger Hellcat Super Snake due to an unknown cause delaying development. Consumers expressed frustration with having to constantly worry about the car's battery pack, and a host of media outlets won't let the car's juice drop below 60 miles per hour.

There are reports Tesla is still intentionally hitting roadblocks in cold weather in order to stimulate demand and ultimately get her 100 kWh batteries cost-competitive with its rivals. Elon Musk said last month that Tesla will sell the Model 3 in several countries without a federal tax credit by the end of next year. That may make the Tesla more attractive, but enthusiasts will have to overcome those obstacles first.

There are plenty of costly problems to solve before fully embracing the electric vehicle. New innovations need to be developed to make high-speed humans actually spin out of control like they did in The Karate Kid; a more advanced, cheaper and intelligent charging method needs to be found; there needs to be a charging station at every home about as ubiquitous as McDonalds. Of course, the Model 3 is already a phenomenal success and among the first vehicles on the market to do that anyway.
