Sony Announced today, the newest addition to the acclaimed G Master full-frame lens line, the Sony FE 35mm f/1.4 GM (SEL3514GM) The 35mm range is a well-loved choice for prime lenses which is why the FE 35mm f/1. 4 OSS (polycarbonate) is among the best-selling Sony lens currently on the market. Sony boasts a high ISO dust and moisture resistant transmission rating on the sensor (ISO100 to ISO12800) and the GM is internally focused (unlike FX – which are externally focused). In addition, the most impressive number here is the Mirror Lock Up, which dramatically increases shutter speeds of the lens from 1/5ths to 1/4th a second when the Sony A7R ED update kit is used. Sony highlights unsurpassed optics through patented Crystal Elements and Nano Crystal Coatings that ensure enhanced light transmission and contrast.

As expected, both new lenses will be retailing for $899 North America for the FE 35mm and $799 for the FE 35mm f/1.4 GM. These are based off a $4,999 base price tag for the full-frame EM1 and should ship from Sony next quarter.

This new upgrade feature in particular is pretty relevant. Unless you come with the latest system software scheduled to bump stats to show the full review data… which is very subjective… 50% of the ultimate resolution is often enough to satisfy most people who come into your lens' life as want more out of the camera.

Sony recently announced, their 35mm full-frame model will come with 1.6x crop mode! Apart from the necessity for self-defense (SD vs format), let's not get herding people into this particular lens.

All that we feel should be said here. Compare that model to the new/unfinished FE 35mm f1.4 in ACR 4.5 with degraded performance and bad AF performance. Refinement is what the name implies. EVF Live breaking travel distance is on its way. Expect a firmware update or two.
