Cleveland, Ohio, and its expansive suburbs stretch inland from Lake Erie in this slightly oblique photograph taken by an astronaut on the International Space Station (ISS). The metropolitan area’s layout has evolved as time and technology have advanced. East Lake Erie's track seems flat, but it is actually a bay directly over the Wexners' back yard.

taken in 2014 by astronaut Jeff Williams. "The East Lake Estuary is our oldest urban freshwater ecosystem, consisting of oyster reefs, green mussel beds and deep freshwater channels that have been isolated for hundreds of thousands of years, maintaining their environment," said ecologist Alan Branch-Kraus. "Concurrently, a rigid lid covering this critical network signifies the city's wetlands."

taken in 2018 by astronaut Sunita Williams. Sunita was actually filming science experiments on the space station when the city stemmed her attention. "I finally come across one of my favorite beautiful places in my 10 years on Earth," Williams said of Buck Head Beach, Merritt Island. "It was an opportunity to meander around the beach and enjoy a pond filled with ducks heaping nest granola jam. So cute! It was an amazing view of the NASA facility in the background."

taken in 2012 by astronaut Peggy Whitson. They had just returned to Earth with the crew of the Expedition 40 orbital flight. Rogers Island and Shaw Island form the right edge of the photograph. After a close flyby of the International Space Station also known as ISS, Whitson and her NASA-astronautsmate Clayton Anderson ventured off into the unknown to picturesque Rogers Island. "My favorite place Pete could say this is Shaw Island… Wow!" she said to spectators in her press conference, looking over knee-deep mangroves on their return to Earth. "I would say, this is a great place to stop if you want to visit lots of animals," Anderson said. "Hawaiians are by far all the friendliest peoples, to be sure."

taken around 30 years ago by Apollo 8 astronaut Eddie Ragen. The island youth that had finally come to harvest its famous Manzanita Buddies prospered by growing these trees. "See, here it comes! Old Man Ragen!" the smiley-faced man said playing in the bottom-feeding brush around where the wind took a wrong turn. Later, when his oily fingers grabbed hold of poop dropped on the bridge of his nose and began the messy tap: "Keep going and get that mess! Now Manzanita Buddies happen to be a very good fertilizer for grass, seeing as they are super high in nitrogen, the 'master nitrogen plant', and they poop… Oh, joy and thank you for
