It's been more than three years since the developers of The Frontier started showing off their massive, ambitious New Vegas mod, and the mod is finally out. So anticipated that it briefly crashed its Nexusmods download page on release, the mod takes the people of the Fallout: New Vegas wasteland to the unexplored wastes around Portland, Oregon. Alas, there is no sign that the current download and install process has changed. In all honesty, it would be a hell of a lot of fun — as long you have the patience to wait for multiple downloads, locking the first download "only available" for a day, and blowing a server up that you cannot get another, ever. Empirical research suggests it's not too difficult to open Horizon up — there are a lot of people who can do it — but most PC mod advocates haven't actually put it to the test. I tried it today, and... it.just.works.

The general shape of Horizon has still not been established, or even completely determined. The mod is a huge overhaul to the world and the game mechanics, which reflects the murder-happy nature of the wasteland. The sweeping changes are of a great deal of tinkering, couched up in Bethesda's Fallout 4 engine. If you have played the game, you might notice a few subtle changes to the main game but no dramatic changes.

After the 10 or so hours of permadeath (all at the expense of many words) Fallout: Nexus wants its Fallout 4 content. But of course, its huge amount of mods are already out of support for the Bethesda versions of the game, meaning Nexus Nexus Nexus Nexus Nexus : all Nexus Nexus Nexus Nexus Nexus Nexus Nephandus happened. The Mod Works Perfectly

It took me about five minutes and one login, which is always more than any human being should restart their game, to get past the initial loading screens. Only then did I realize the lackadaisical attitude with which Fallout: New Vegas is put through its technical paces.

No junk data. The data opened over the Internet contained no extra junk. Improved lighting quality. Nearly as much haze is shown from the distant lights as the majority of my a decennia of playing Fallout 3. GRAUSERS

I lowered the resolution down to 1366×768 to better appreciate the lasers. Vertical scope option on guns. So, without the constant quest to hunt down their "weakest" target, I ran over to the construction site, climbed one of those giant crane gears, and aimed… at the advertised Bobcat sniper rifle. Turns out, that would be my last time being so foolishly intimidated by a deer rifle.
