The figures presented are pretty staggering, with an 18 percent increase in participants ability to relax, a 28 percent drop in rash decision making and a 29 percent improvement in stress resilience. Stubbs said that these numbers come from the EEG scans rather than self-reported by the test subjects.

Both exercise and meditation have been shown to increase levels of endorphins in the body, which have often been singled out as the buzz kills that stop people from overcompeting. Merely taking the time to take breath breaks can improve both the well-being and productivity of your daily life, especially for mobile and office employees.

This was one of Stubbs' personal reasons for adopting an exercise and meditation routine in the first place. He found as he worked, he wasn't overly bothered by stress and had little trouble jumping back in after moving or taking a smartphone break at the office. After a bit of a break from workplace demands, his productivity dropped off.

There were just two challenges with the new study, however. There was the time we think may be the problem.

Additionally, getting the amount of participants necessary for the study was a bit tricky. Stubbs worked with just six participants. After they returned home from their runs, they were encouraged to sign up their friends, but Stubbs himself didn't even have enough guests to meet the researcher's expectations.

Conflicts and self-imposed excuses aside, an increase in wellness and stamina can only be a good thing if it starts in the recommended step 11.03 of the American Cancer Society's Cancer Prevention Guidelines.

Sounds simple, but Stubbs cautioned that it didn't work for everyone.

There are several scenarios that can encourage fitness, but Stubbs cited finding the time for daily activities, getting better at timing fitness activities — and passing the time in between.

"I'm a coffee drinker—I might just be in the wrong place with workouts," Stubbs said. "Folks who are able to focus on the sports they want to coach the next day — like hockey, basketball, skateboarding… it overlaps with time and focused exercises on the other days."

Modes of exercise: Yoga, cycling, cardio, long walks and Transcendental Meditation have all exhibited positive effects, researchers have found across various contexts throughout the world.
