The Lenovo Yoga 9i series is a successor to the formidable Yoga C940 series, available in both 14- and 15-inch models. With the new, tidier naming scheme comes a bump up to Intel's 11th Gen hardware and Intel Evo platform certification, improved TrueStrike keyboard, optional leather lid cover, and edge-to-edge glass touchpad, Thunderbolt 4 ports, and more. For the 11" variant, Lenovo is instead offering one of two Acer Aspire R7 series upgrades, as well as a 7th Generation Core i7-8550U in an Intel trimmed base model ($1799) and Core M-5Y10 in a TDP-VOUPLED variant for $999. Any 11" model ($149) will come with a Core i3-7350H right out of the gate. Storage options include up to SSD up to 128 GB, and (starting with Core M) up to 512GB RAM —though the HD update percentage jump is nice. Lenovo has dropped a fan and raised the shroud to reduce the height without cutting off the cold air flowing on the edges.

The company is obviously focused on the physical design of the new laptops, of course, but add on top of that a touch of new Flash and you have a generational leap in performance that likely deserves more attention than the integration into 1.8- and 1.45-inch HX1 and HX2 series chassis as it does (to bring the wool over the added weight and occur environmental testing).

If the technology yoga fans crave is positive updates to the guts of their machines, the Lenovo Yoga 9i series is what you're looking for.

Modern Touchpad Mania

Like the Yoga C930-16 and Yoga C930-45 preceeders, both 11" Lenovo Yoga 9i models offer Lenovo's Wacom digitizer in an U series backlit enter/mouse clicky unit (a pointer available for left and right clicks). Intel's DeepTouch trackpad remains configurable and we'd chalk this part up to it being an update rather than a structural reinterpretation. The larger 15.6-inch Yoga C940 sports an inky charcoal-gray housing with capacitive touch buttons, though at least Lenovo includes an optional USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable not found in the previous-generation C930 siblings. We assume that would mean this touchpad will work as well as the other models, though that's about all we know beyond the general expectation that it will be similar. Something else in common here is that water resistance is optional.

Well, only the larger configuration sports the optional keyboard cover. The smaller, 13.5" Yoga C930T may have a removable bottom panel, so there's space to spare for it to sit without additional load, but we don't recommend it. Costs start at $1099,
