A new study shows a link between bad technology and higher stress levels of employees.

Researchers from American computer company Dell Technologies led the study. They focus on the potential effect of technology on employees' mental and physical health, abilities and productivity.

The report suggests that market-wide operating system technologies, such as some versions of Apple's OS X and Microsoft's Windows, already cause distress among workers who are required to work on equipment that operates off the workstation's display.

An estimated 38.5 percent of employee households do not have more of them than tablets or smartphones so the study suggests that company-wide operating system technologies are expected to become the norm, yet some employees may be unable to overcome these troubles.

These workers are far more likely to have poor physical health, as 85 percent of human employees are classified as overweight or obese. Their stress levels also rise and they find it hard to perform their jobs. The research also showed that four industry archetypes – emerging market, consumer, middle class, and corporate – can differ in their percentage of worker households with poor physical health.
