As Blizzard/Activision goes through some restructuring, word has come out that a remaster of the beloved Diablo II game is in the works.

Over the weekend, Bloomberg reported that Vicarious Visions (Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy) was in talks with Activision/Blizzard to make the assigned photo game revealed at this year's E3. Vicarious Visions is in the business of making photo games, with their portfolio including Wipeout Pulse and Katamari Damacy.

It is unknown at this point if Activision/Blizzard has gotten the project, or if the studio is still working on Skylanders. Even if the renamed project is kept separate of the Skylanders portfolio, Diablo II is one of the most popular games from the 1992 release, so a Diablo remaster certainly seems like a good fit for an Activision/Blizzard team.

Fan response from the Diablo community has been promising, with many feeling that the title look better on modern consoles, and Activision/Blizzard always has had a good track record with the Blizzard series.

Blizzard/Activision has been lauded for many of their recent projects such as Diablo III, Cataclysm, and Starcraft II, so this Diablo II project is definitely something they are keeping an eye on.

Katamari Damacy was released on the Nintendo DS in 2010.

Currently, Activision/Blizzard have an E3 showing scheduled, but a new name is still on the way. Perhaps we will see something related to Diablo III if Activision/Blizzard aren't interested.
