The world record for the most stable transmission of a laser signal through the atmosphere has been broken.

Scientists from the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) and The University of Western Australia (UWA) broke the record using ‘phase stabilisation’ technology alongside advanced self-guiding optical terminals.

The world record was set at 4.38GHz with a wavelength of 4.376 GHz. The new record was secured by the University of Utah in the USA for 5.55GHz.

It is thought that a laser signal is only transmitted up to a wavelength of 5GHz because sunlight phases into a range of colours as it reaches us. By bouncing off clouds, fibres or special metal surfaces the idea is to redefine the density of the atmosphere so that manmade signals could yet be used up to even greater wavelengths.

"The research is like a ray gun with a lightcannon – all the photons will be in phase," said Doctor Roland Gruber, who led the team, from ICREA in Quebec, Canada. "It will reach the station at shorter distances than ever before so we will be able to power up our network even sooner and shift a lot of equipment to a new space anywhere in the world."

Up to now ultra-fast lasers have been dropped over a few metres above ground along with aircraft.

Plans are to deliver ultra-fast high specificity signals across 100km distances that are about one tenth of the speed of light into the stratosphere by 2020.

The new breakthrough will land an automatic system called start...and shine to be tested on ICREA's hallowed spectroscopic bench.

Christopher Cownoose, Science Exchange officer managed by UWA, said: "As Australia's centre of astronomy, UWA is honored to be exploring this new frontier and to be able to show such exciting vision for astronomy and the public."

The scientist-helpers, who have all been involved with laser research, hope to have the tech ready for public trials once the technology is demonstrated to be very stable in space.

Blueshirts, also known as brainpower, are a group of brainwashed zombies who serve as the primary construction vehicle of Zoic Studios. Blueshirts are intentionally manipulated by Smith to serve as workers with less brainpower than Smith. The team consists of various zombies who are brainwashed to work on the Hill Valley Railroad, an assignment which are not given to the brainwashed humans naturally. Out of the zombies manipulated by Smith do not lack intelligence, but they are under the most extreme mind manipulation attempt in the series to fit the current
