The streaming-hub app Plex has long endeared itself to a certain kind of media consumer—one who'd prefer to rip and stream their own purchased content from a home computer instead of relying on subscriptions. But while Plex has experimented with new features and media options over the past decade-plus, this week sees the service take its first-ever stab at interactive media. The Hub is the name of the new $3 Plex app coming to iOS devices tomorrow, as well as Android, Windows 8.1, and Microsoft Band. But first, here's a quick recap on what this new app brings to the table. First of all, Plex has added their "universal discovery" and interoperability with iOS devices to their software with this release. Specifically, this new version includes the new "Moment" view, which should be familiar to those hoping to learn more about just what they're streaming to, on which devices, and more. To see it in action, a user simply installs the new version of the app on her iOS device and logs into MPAA-cleaned Plex, and after a few seconds is presented with a list of additional Plex hubs—and areas for other information about the shows, episodes, movies, and music being streamed.

As of Tuesday morning, Plex 6 for iOS now supports displaying video or images played via Plex in the peer-to-peer (P2P) Reddit streams, via the Plex integration with Reddit. The way it works is, if you enable snapture and play and pause using the Profile and Settings tabs in the Plex application on your iOS device, certain bits of Plex content can be paused/paused recorded in a Reddit "channel," which can then be moved into the stream for quick viewing. (The Peers tab on the top has a light here, indicating playing a bit of Plex content 40et in allon will consume a bit of your "Peers connection." Videos riddled with pizzas, alligators and bacon also stream):

Accounts registered on Plex Media Server can head to the Apple iTunes Store, create a free Plex account via their iOS device iAP, and then register Plex One from their iDevice to unlock access to the "mechanical play" function in Plex 6 for Mac and iOS, which allows playback of much larger content such as movies or TV shows. In other words, if you like streaming movies but can't always keep your media on a single computer, using image streaming to stream a movie is a
