January's full moon is often called the Wolf Moon.

The final week of January will feature the first full moon of 2021, a celestial event that has several nicknames with origins that can be traced to January's wintry weather.

A year ago, 1/4th moon was dubbed the Wolf Moon, referencing the fact that people around the world were seeing bright photos as they kept a sharp eye on the moon. Though also likened to a wolf, it is unknown exactly what the name is for this first full moon of the year.

Over the years, there have also been variations to the name. Back in 1974, an astronomer named Hugo Gernsback began saying that there was a year 598; differing slightly, the year 599 read 598.
