Sony has officially taken the wraps off its latest smartphone: the Sony Xperia Pro. But at a whopping $2,500 this isn't just any regular smartphone — it can also act as a camera accessory for content creators.

Sony's Xperia Pro 5G is a 6-inch smartphone with a resolution of 2880×2445. It comes with a 13-megapixel camera and Sony's built-in processor, which should improve the smartphone's battery life during video production. You also get a number of apps, including Slide, a photo sharing app that automatically integrates using the LCD screen at the top of the phone. The Digital Video Enthusiast (DVE) app allows you to quickly switch between different types of compression, such as H.264 1080p, 4K and 5.1 PCM.

The phone comes with a quad-core processor and match is powered by a 2,800mAh battery, which should stretch its battery life another decent chunk of time after a full day's usage.

Alex Davies, head of software strategy for advertising and marketing at Sony Mobile Entertainment, told Mashable that Sony's "high-end nature" lends itself to the new $2,500 smartphone, compared to the comparable $900 Sony Xperia Z3.

"When you have problems like waterproofing and daytime running, you want something with longevity," he said. Fascinating.

And if the 78mm-long Xperia Z3 doesn't count, then the Xperia Pro 6-inch screen-sized smartphone will certainly stump. Cyrus Farivar, an entertainment and editorial analyst with eMarketer, said the Xperia Pro is clearly Sony's answer to competing smartphones from Samsung and HTC. And if you look at the Xperia Z3 you would guess, but miss, that this is the phone the company was hoping to sell when recent reports claimed they were behind a mobile re-branding effort.

In case you think that's an exaggeration, look at the Xperia Z3 lineup and compare the few designs they had, explains Farivar. Sony released a couple of new smartphone each day the past few weeks —'s Galaxy S5 and J5; and were aced them completely. Sony immediately launched the Xperia Z3 for just $399 with a dual-camera setup and Sony is more aggressive with pricing this time around.

And Sony is following only an incremental path with the Xperia Pro 5G. A dual-tone display that changes its color from whitish-yellow-orange to vibrant white and then back to that whitish-yellow-orange.

It's IP58 certified so you can take it underwater and the phone not only comes with a USB Type C charger but also an earphone
