With many of the most recent crop of games exceeding 100GB in size, adding more storage to complement your OS drive is quickly becoming a necessity. And in the world of SATA SSD storage, nothing really comes as close to providing as much value for money as this deal we've found.

At the price of £99.12 — you can see the deal here — Samsung's professional-grade SSD, the H80M-E 840 EVO, offers nearly eight terabytes of storage within an ultra-portable M.2 2280 form factor that has been whittled down to fit in the mainboard housing of a new ultra-thin XPS 13 chassis. The new XPS, as it's called, doesn't have a traditional hard drive, but rather two PCIe-e 3.0 (that's PCIe on both sides of the computer) slot-loading ultrafast SSD drives.

This means the new XPS 13 is the world's thinnest and lightest 13 inch notebook sporting a current visible measurement of only 0.63 inches at its thickest? and weighing under 2 lbs. with svelte muscle tweaker presentation. While increased portability isn't the primary use goal of the drive — it would be more fitting to justify the price point as a price-tokener for enthusiasts (who have/still own ultra-thin notebooks like the XPS 13) who already own plenty of card-based storage — Samsung's H80M-E 840 EVO is clearly a major improvement over its predecessor, the X-series Samsung 850 EVO SSD which has slowly but surely gone from a high-end upgrade option to a cost-effective "last stock" product.

I really do think on all levels that the XPS 13 is where the SATA SSD market should be heading. There are just so many gems to be found in this relatively tiny space.

That ultra-catchy new upgrade design is due out in time for the 2017 XPS 13 and alongside the M.2 slot spacers and M.2 micro-ATX form factors it will buy into the SSD landscape. To solve even more the ultra-thin M.2 form factor is presented to buyers at an extremely appealing price: £99.12, configured instantly with the SSD above normally myself or even fellow TechSpot editors (we first reviewed the Samsung 850 EVO 128GB).

Fortunately we've no reason to believe the H80M-E 840 EVO SSD won't command the price it's being offered at just because the specs and capability are so impressive for an SSD. Today's review focus on STAMINA Mode ramping up the SSD's endurance for raw performance.
