Alibaba pressed to sell media assets

As Chinese government officials begin to crack down on big tech, regulators have increased pressure on ecommerce giant Alibaba Group Holdings Ltd. as it looks to sell its former English language publications as well as businesses that have risen to become major web firms in the country. OnePlus Corp. is trying to shorten compliance processes for mainland application holders as soon as possible.

"One view shared by sellers and specialized market researchers critical of independent cultural content on China's online platforms was that allowing consumption of banned content in China could encourage further consumption and more illegal operations by sellers. "What their concerns are is that when it comes to dealing with the issue of rule breaking, they themselves are doing the breaking …," said David Geffen, director of Xinyu, a Hong Kong-based culture site.
