The long-awaited Warhammer: Vermintide 2 DLC, Chaos Wastes, finally got a release date, and it’s just around the corner. The DLC is free to all Vermintide 2 owners, and it constitutes a brand new game mode that continues the ongoing narrative of Vermintide 2 while also introducing a brand new way to play the game.

First of all, it involves building monuments to everything that is Fimir, from war machines to fae, as well as playing all kinds of different skirmish based missions with your dragoons. These missions require you to build structures that aren't necessarily available in the campaign and your dabbling Fimir warriors can then enter them and help you do that. That is, if you don't destroy those structures first.

Chaos Wastes was initially available in a closed testing version that did not allow for multiplayer. Players used the PC, Mac OS X, and Linux client, but only went up as far as battle in Guild Battlegrounds mode. It is still in limited testing right now, but the team is looking for all different kinds of feedback across all versions and platforms. In the meantime, you can experience more of what Chaos Wastes offers in the original 40% Founder version, which contains all of the EP Cities Pack.

You can check out a new trailer showcasing the new Chaos Wastes map to get a feel for just what this update is all about, and see the Missions Page for a full breakdown of all the new scale free updates. Unfortunately, you can't play this much of the campaign content in Chaos Wastes mode, but we know there is more of it to come.

If you are playing Vermintide 2, then do check out some of these recent image teasers and screenshots of the new Rookgaard. These show you a lone Fimir Lord (the one you can wreak havoc the highest in game), in his stronghold atop some ruins that once stood in the forest originally surrounding Rookgaard. The Overlord's Eye does look pretty cool, as does the Armory. And if you wish for a little Hail-Mary insane destruction on your side, maybe a few cannon balls are more your style.

In the meantime, be sure to check out localizer Chris Randall's Massive Craft Flak Screenshot Series to see 768 different kinds of devastation that terrified 51 million educational babies.
