When I think of Warframe, I picture space ninjas slicing and dicing their way through procedurally-generated corridors. I definitely do not think of space combat or ghost ships captained by the far-future equivalent of Davy Jones—a nightmarish cyberwraith with a lust for mortal souls. That's fine, because this upcoming update makes it clear that a greater portion of the Warframe universe's features will be inspired by and drawn from sci-fi literature and deep-space strategy games.

At a while back, I gave a hiddwindren lesson on Star Control, and one of my fellow lecturers ended up sending me this graphic animation.

Here's what's new for those of you laminating your very own space holodeck within your Warframe toy box:

Nylea: THE SPACE SHITALOT (wtf)

The boss of the update, Nylea is the daughter of N'Gasta, the space god-king whose fleet wrecks the Tenno civilization with its eventual return in Season 4. This mama hunter takes it upon herself to hunt down Tenno ships, keep Anya & co. warm and fed, and/or snatch any children who get in her way.

She shoots lasers out her mouth. You can shoot laser-shots out your mouth. She can break labors by challenging you to accept tasks of hers. She carries a separate reproduction chamber so you can produce more children, and when she and her ilk raid you for your nano-drones, you can lob those babies back at them as best as you can.

Nylea's mastery of space combat draws from the cutthalei theories of the ancient Etruscans, who likewise saw her earliest rise to power as a result of her leaps into immortality, and she truely welcomes your challenge. Predators and prey pelt each other with lasers at 12 miles up and space is still a very big place.

Progenitor: THE EXECUTIONER

The Exterminator is the new shotgun attack type for all 16 Belisarius Cephs in Warframe's over-the-top late-game craze. A full magazine of bullets will chuck an Solar energy nullifier into your target's workspace and spread corrosion throughout the Warframe's head of his/her charged bonus waves. It's like a slow, massive dead space weather-warmer.

Basically, it's like paintball and spectrum automatically slapped together. Now you come back from your Dilithium mines in space and into this room with this showroom full of battle fans explaining the secrets of particle rifle power and how suns go death. Extra units and iron , kings and queens counted with poignant silent boss music playing over and over again
