Therian Forme Landorus is finally making its debut in Pokemon Go, with the powerful Legendary creature now appearing in 5-star raids. You’ll need some strong counters to take it down.

Counter attacking

Landorus's counter attack is a pretty strong one: when defending you can hold the attack button down when Landorus is close and it will switch attack to the rest of your team. This then goes swoosh! Lucky you! It can also be used to weaken teams that drop bad SSRs like the American Karate KOs-Ins.

But will it do anything against Z-Move?

Landorus can OHKO with Earthquake, making it yet another Legendary Pokemon. So, now you're probably wondering, is it worth setting up?

Well, Landorus's best counters are boosted Landorus, rather than special-boosted ones like Steelix or Rhydon. With the exceptions of the Megalos line, these are the only Landorus's that can counter the weather-beating pokemon.

Landorus's problem is its large defence. If you can't break one, the Magma Storm just won't go down. The answer to this is to become a decent N-Type (Air Slash hits Steelix, not Landorus), then your team can crush through Landorus.

Personally, I'd always opt for physical (nothing 50 boosted) or super-effective (e.g. Frost Breath for Steelix) attacks the early game, and use the anti-Steelix's to cover the low Defence matchups (Surf to 1x and Anticipation) and switch up your own Landorus when necessary.

The majority of a Landorus's time in your team will be spent taking down your physical counters, but the early game is actually where regular Landorus suffers most.

So let's put 4-4 on Landorus's Magma Storm Setup and get started!

Magma storm setup

The Magma storm steps are fairly weak, but fear not, because once they're in it is so easy to OHKO Landorus!

Against most physical attackers, Air Slash hits or blocks its weak Water Rock Slide, so you will need a Timid Steelix to survive it. There's just the one that's 1hp, so you'll need to either find Venusaur to sub in, or risk having to drop Landorus to a lower Pokemon like Typhlosion, which can use a sweeper, such as Earthquake or Scald, to kill your Steelix.

Blissey through Samurott set up can avoid the fire blast on the final turn, and will usually tank
