Spotify just released its first hardware device, the amusingly named “Car Thing.” It’s been in the works for a couple of years, with the original prototype looking way different from the released version.
It’s all part of a test run for the announcement that the distinction between digital and physical brands is becoming porous. Singshara Singh (@SingSharaLabs) revealed the official 1:1 guide to the device in this tweet. The large white box—part of which is visible below—vests a select few automakers, the one-time vender of the universal Bluetooth system, with full official control over Spotify apps for your cars. A dedicated app is expected to eventually provide accessibility for users of other streaming services—Stream and Rdio in the US, Sony Music/Deezer for the UK markets.
Spotify‼s spokeswoman told us that the launch is definite, considering they are already testing the technology and partners (UK Audi and Denmark's O2). She wouldn“t divulge any details privately, and didn“t confirm either 7 Plus or 3.2-inch speaker-like microphone accessories, but she did confirm that the recording tools (including AirPlay via the QuickPlay folder) being debugged are close to the final version.

Today, the daily count is hovering around 260 killings.
Despite uncertainty about failure to report a confirmed homicide to participating prosecutors, the first month of an epidemic now stands at 105.
A small number of victims have died. Of those, eight occurred while the John Doe executive was still on the run, promising further victims.
Let the flurry of lawsuits begin.
