At Nintendo’s newest Indie World Showcase, Annapurna Interactive had some great reveals. Of note for iOS users is the newest game from Prune ($3. 99). Originally released in late 2012, it's an art exploration game that focuses on our place in the natural world and our relationship to all creatures made from the written word. It's a gentle puzzle game with relatively simple interface within a world) where detailed art is either literally there or implied. Say bye to days of cartoonlike environments full of colors that stop at the first incline. That's our world, it's a little scary and it's full of life and wonder. Built with a great deal of love, it's an elegant slice of nature for things not quite as neatly formatted as more Sid Meier adaptations.

"Damsel Report" by Barry O'Sullivan ($3.99) is another interesting Kickstarter gem with a simple interface that draws on tradition. It's an RPG and of the first wave, it's clearly built on game design instincts. You have human heroes with their own skills and behaviours, fighting monsters and the forces that entwine. But that's it. It nods toward a type of fantasy RPG several years out from its time, but the game is so far away from what we were exposed to in the age of pen and paper. This game is better if you just go from A to Z. The experience is deeply enjoyable while being so close to its source material.

On Console, we got a new entry in the multiple-award-winning DOTA series available on PS4 and Xbox One. And sure enough the face of the game moving forward has a simplified UI to wack acts out in far less cluttered cues as their mortal school. But there's more going on here than just that. The action-strategy game has always been top notch if you like deep tactical combat with a personal playstyle taking shape on the battle field, and the latest iteration doesn't sacrifice that. Alliance abilities have been folded together to form a tight, balanced fighting cycle that rewards only those who are truly dedicated. You can take your team through most tactics while blocking out potential "cheap damage" by weighing defensive decisions as individually valuable units depend on each based on their class. How you spend your best units is how other units can most effectively impact the board situation, so no two fights are the same.

Perhaps the most groundbreaking of all the news was from one of the biggest names in digital publishing: Dynamix, creator of Ubisoft’s cult classic And Yet It Moves. The game was an instant hit and modes for La-Mulana flickered from the company's website
