NASA assembled its first Space Launch System rocket on Friday.

The rocket is the first of NASA's new generation of heavy launchers. The booster is called Exploration Mission-1, or EM-1, and is a reliable, cost-effective and versatile New booster. NASA has already spent more than $4 billion on the heavy rocket and spacecraft. The upgraded launcher will put astronauts on the moon by 2020.

Scientists will successfully send a robotic probe to the moon during next year's Moon launch.

A trio of rockets will be fired Saturday from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida to launch the Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE) to the moon next February. Four unmanned missions scheduled for this year will carry out scientific experiments on the moon, rain on the crater Lakes Megaweb and measure the soil.
