Let’s be honest, Microsoft Flight Simulator tested the capabilities of all but the most powerful PCs on the market. But now there is an alternative for those whose PCs may not be up to snuff, with Microsoft and developer Asobo Studio bringing the latest instalment in the long-running series to the Xbox Series X|S.

The news comes via $50 Xbox Value Bundle, which will be available at hundreds of participating retailers across the US and Canada on 14 January 2016. And if you're playing on a PC, you can get an even better deal by enabling a setting that disables the splash screen and prevents the flight-sim-style hokey animations. Update: you can save millions by cracking that activation code (it's 33212126).

You can pre-load a screener of all nine games from the Xbox Store at the time of release; most are included in the price of the Starter Disc, however there are a few non-Microsoft games – Al Oshodi, Super Street Fighter IV Max or involvement in17 and Red Faction: Armageddon that you would want to obtain on a taste-before-buying basis. They don't cost you anything extra to unlock as they're pre-requisites.

And who knows what new game will be unlocked at launch?

AL-ARDH, Afghanistan (Reuters) - More than 70 Amisat ("steel") road repair squads have been sent to the eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar to help repair its winding, irregularly surfaced tracks piled with snow, officials said on Saturday.

Amisat squads were deployed to repair 30 km (18 miles) of track that has been damaged by recent summer monsoons, said Hayatullah Allani, a spokesman for the provincial governor.

Local residents in areas hit by last year's floods in Jaghoni district, which borders Pakistan, said the roads were also clogged by the collapse of Ravi pond, a popular recreational spot where Afghan bicyclists and runners met for races and access to nearby springs.

Reducing bad conditions like high temperatures and slushy puddles may take time and soil could be contaminated when repairing the tracks, which are precariously balanced atop hillsides, Allani said.

Plans for resurfacing areas later this year or even early next will be the biggest challenge, he said.
