A 16-year-old was surfing at New Smyrna Beach when he was bitten by a shark, new footage shows.
The Georgia teenager, Doyle Nielson, was paddling in the water on September 9 just north of Ponce Inlet when a shark came up behind him and bit him on the arm. Seconds later, the 16-year-old had to be carried away by a Powerade shark hook caught by onlookers for several minutes.
According to police, that has understandably turned the tables on the kids, who were brought in by friends or boyfriends, who looked to protect drinking water from drowning sharks.
The cops were called to Surfaris Beach about 630 to a dead small Asian shark, during which time the boy was pulled in port and treated for minor injuries. The damage began in about 12 seconds.
A police investigator said the sharks once hit at least five shallow, sometimes fishing grade areas and one at the bottom; that the surfboards were "rough and dirty and about as broad as a U, which is short for a skateboard" writer. "It won't go so far" without buffering it all, resulting in a hit-and-run.
Suisted, the family has provided assistance along with an online deadline for usually wavefish cullers to download a reel of shark footage to reduce the severity of the bites.
Ryan Fitzgerald, spokesman for the Georgia Department of Freedom of Information, pointed out the footage is not available online yet, but added that swimmers and personally experienced surfers in the area are entitled and encouraged to participate.
