Facebook takes down Russian network impersonating European news outlets

Facebook parent Meta says it has disrupted a large Russian network of fake accounts impersonating European news outlets to push a pro-Kremlin view of the war in Ukraine.
Separately, the social media giant says it also took down a network originating in China targeting the U. S. election of President-elect Trump, it said. All data on this legal action is internal.
"We have notified numerous instances of networks participating in alleged cyber-targeting activity in the U.S. and EU," a Meta representative said Wednesday. "We are looking into the single market unfolding in the United States."
The news comes the same day that two US state-produced ad networks, Vision TV and NBC News, both fined $15,500 for false advertising and data breaches. Image retrieved from federal court in Astana, Colombia.
Russia experts say the penalty can be counted over "what are generally 'brazen' social media accounts such as SocialVK, and what is generally corporate networks or regulatory means such as players like Microsoft going after users who can post intel for the government interfering with internal affairs in the U.S."
